I am coming near my 90 days under Ginyard Trucking and have learned a heck of lot. I am going to be turning my leased truck in and have decided to look for investor partners to assist me with building out the transportation division, 13 Stones. As I like to speak positive and communicate what things went right, (although I am able to state where and how money or an opportunity was lossed) I must say that choosing the "right" partner has been a unique lesson. You hear that with marriage but I never really understood it. Granted people continue to change and grow so an ideal partner today may not be tomorrow. Follow your gut or shall I say instinct, it never lies.

On to bigger and better things. During my 90 days, I drove and worked inside the office brokering loads and dealing with drivers. Hire slow, fire fast. Follow your gut or shall I say instinct. No that is not a repeat. I could digress on the choosing the 'right' partner but I have moved on and learned. During this 90 days, I created a profitable-load spread sheet that is quite simple but proved to be quite effective. My software past has got me to thinking of an online version to make available for either a subscription fee or one time down load. Focus, focus yes it is in the industry, but focus.

So I am off to find the right partners, first advisor-investor partners that will keep me focused, in gear, profitable. Napoleon Hill speaks of creating a dream team so as the book states, I shall follow.

As sit in my cousin's Miami office, my truck parked nearby...I am thinking about my next steps. Yes, I leased a truck coined "butterfly" and my first 3 days on the road with a team driver, we racked up 2561 miles earning a total revenue of $4100. Yes, I hit my number the first week out. Granted there are a few things I need to work out to maximize profitability yet the first step has been met.

I have thus created a spreadsheet for identifying a profitable load and the proper allocation of funds so that the dispatcher can make negotiate a profitable load and the bookkeeper can allocate the funds appropriately. All in all, a very good experience thus far. Choosing loads every day isn't profitable and wastes too much time. Have decided to find some broker partners to gain loads easier, less negotiation, and steadier more predictable income.

I have come to the conclusion that it is more beneficial for me to be behind the desk, so to speak, as long as the truck is moving. A couple of hundred dollars each day, of course is helpful specially at the present moment, yet I could open up new lines of business and form partnerships and direct the business more efficiently.

Will be venturing out shortly and establishing - 13 stones. Although I have been flirting with the idea of Fliepan and Javakitty Transportation, I found a stone last night that has set my course so to speak.

Tonight, off to the beach. It was nice to be able to deliver a load in Miami, park the truck and then go visit my cousin. My ideal getting paid in my travels is paying off. Now to increase profitability.

As I plan on posting - 13 Stones business plan to the fliepan corporate site and/or the 13 stone site, I am quite proud of the introduction, which has been coined by many as my Manifesto.

The purpose of this document in its entirety, and specifically the next two pages is to provide you, the reader, with some insight and a brief background of my ideology and me. Without knowing who I am, where I have “come” from, or what I believe in, a positive-educated decision on your part, may not be forthcoming, as a decision not to act is a decision. As I have come to appreciate, your decision will not be so determined on the following business enterprises viability and profitability, as you experience it’s success each day as you purchase products in your daily life, yet more so on my ability to do what I am proposing. Put more simply, whether you think I can.

I am in the business of “business”. I define business as a systematized monetary platform that derives and delivers value and income for the benefit of all involved in a Company to experience and live a life they want. The Company becomes the vehicle for which to grow and improve the experience and lives of its Clients, Family, Investors, Partners, and Shareholders. The business foundation is created and set by the principals’ involved and their guiding principle’s as it pertains to family, life, love, joy, religion, and success (to name a few); and the amalgamation of those beliefs translated purposely unto and into the Company through the varying business interests.

As many of you know, I have always been a student of business and have taken great pride in reading, researching, and absorbing anything involved with business and the art of earning and creating value. Through my studies I have dabbled in various industries, held numerous positions, and started a couple of companies. I have sold both tangible products and intangible ideas successfully and profitability. Without going into any great detail in any one area, through my experiences and studies I have determined that the following business venture provides 5 key elements for success:

1. Ease of entry into industry

2. Minimal capital required

3. Ability to provide service each day

4. Ability to be profitable and returning invested capital within 90 days

5. A systematic business platform can be easily designed to build and grow

I have uncovered these elements through both research and experiencing the business in question. Granted, no business venture is guaranteed success and/or profits yet I can promise you that my success and your success are and will be directly related. As I have experienced many challenging ventures, I have come to appreciate there is really only two rules of business;

1. Don’t lose capital

2. Don’t forget rule number one

As I hope you see yourself, I have adopted the ideology of being an Allocator of Capital. As you consider allocating your capital, specifically your monies, I have taken to the allocation of my time and money and to the profitable management of our capital, to grow, so that we may enjoy and benefit from continued expansion, schooling, and mastery in the art of business.

As you read the following proposal, I have attempted to present and communicate the business effectively and efficiently, not so much simply as I chose to use the terms and words of the industry and you may not be versed in the terminology currently. The business is simple to understand and I have provided you the means by which I will report the operating activities, hence, expose and educate you on the terms I have found to be utilized throughout the industry so you may have a guide as you compare the Company to another embarking in the same line of business.

Please keep in mind that the plans that follow are not set in stone and more than likely will change. What will not change and what I want you to hold unto is the end goal. The goals will be achieved, that should not be so much of a concern. How we will achieve them may call for a reworking of plans, where I will need your faith, support, and positive energy. For some this may not be an easy task and will more than likely test your character and faith in me. To this I answer, similar to when you are driving at night along a dark road with no streetlights and your high beams on, you only have the ability to see approximately 200 feet ahead, yet you trust that the road continues and you will reach your destination. I present this analogy as a practiced and a philosophical thought. I have been researching the transportation industry for 2 years, obtained my commercial driving license (CDL) in May 2007, and spent June – August 2007 on the road driving trucks, to learn:

1. The needs and wants of a truck driver

2. How to find and negotiate freight to transport profitably

3. The business challenges by communicating with persons in the industry.

From this information and the study of other companies in the industry, I have uncovered and accumulated ways of doing business that should ensure a profitable enterprise. These “ways” of operating profitably include many varying variables that are known and others to be discovered through the actual operations of the business.

I have taken a holistic view of creating the ideal business platform and feel that I have identified a business driver for growth and expansion. Well what can I say. Its been a whirlwind of a couple of months. I was on the road, traveling around the eastern part of the US in a truck. It was truly amazing and another life altogether. After driving for a few months, I created 13 Stones to bring my transportation vision to fruition. Its been a phase of "commitments", specifically 8/31/07 but that will be for another day, another blog, or shall I say my journals for my kids to read.

After writing my business plan, I began implementing my plan and leased my first truck and hired a driver. 9/17/07. Got it on the road in 3 days where I began earning money as I returned to Atlanta. It feels good to bring an idea to fruition and begin reaping the awards or income. I am planning on bringing on my next truck(s), I am not sure why but the common logic in the industry is accumulate trucks in odd numbers. Its good to see I am on the cusp of logic as I have visualized operating 13.

My research has been steady as I have been understanding trading options. I still have a steep learning curve as I have yet to find a suitable mentor, although the stories of the Turtles has struck an accord. However, I did come across "The Science of Success" by Charles G. Koch. His book was amazing and written in the same fashion, geared to the same audience (employee, recruits, and investor/partners). The opening was just amazing and I literally read the book in one sitting.

Philosophically, I have adopted an attitude of ease and going with the flow of life. I have been concentrating on what I want, visualizing the end, and appreciating the journey. I realizing the I am the creator of my reality and that I manifest beautifully and everything always works out. All in all a great place to be, me in the time -space reality.

I have recieved my CDL license (5/15/07) and waiting to be picked up to begin "driving" my business. I have learned a lot in the past few weeks, during the time I was in CDL school. I realized the importance of seeing the best in everyone, making the best out of ever situation, and taking a moment to intend on what you want to happen. I am feeling very excited as I am about to start my new venture, which will carry over into my business. A predictable income stream for me to use as my foundation and growth of my empire.

90 days to profitability of any venture is my guidepost.

Commencement address by Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computer and of Pixar Animation Studios, delivered on June 12, 2005.


I am honored to be with you today at your commencement from one of the finest universities in the world. I never graduated from college. Truth be told, this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to a college graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That’s it. No big deal. Just three stories.

The first story is about connecting the dots.

I dropped out of Reed College after the first 6 months, but then stayed around as a drop-in for another 18 months or so before I really quit. So why did I drop out?

It started before I was born. My biological mother was a young, unwed college graduate student, and she decided to put me up for adoption. She felt very strongly that I should be adopted by college graduates, so everything was all set for me to be adopted at birth by a lawyer and his wife. Except that when I popped out they decided at the last minute that they really wanted a girl. So my parents, who were on a waiting list, got a call in the middle of the night asking: “We have an unexpected baby boy; do you want him?” They said: “Of course.” My biological mother later found out that my mother had never graduated from college and that my father had never graduated from high school. She refused to sign the final adoption papers. She only relented a few months later when my parents promised that I would someday go to college.

And 17 years later I did go to college. But I naively chose a college that was almost as expensive as Stanford, and all of my working-class parents’ savings were being spent on my college tuition. After six months, I couldn’t see the value in it. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and no idea how college was going to help me figure it out. And here I was spending all of the money my parents had saved their entire life. So I decided to drop out and trust that it would all work out OK. It was pretty scary at the time, but looking back it was one of the best decisions I ever made. The minute I dropped out I could stop taking the required classes that didn’t interest me, and begin dropping in on the ones that looked interesting.

It wasn’t all romantic. I didn’t have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends’ rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. I loved it. And much of what I stumbled into by following my curiosity and intuition turned out to be priceless later on. Let me give you one example:

Reed College at that time offered perhaps the best calligraphy instruction in the country. Throughout the campus every poster, every label on every drawer, was beautifully hand calligraphed. Because I had dropped out and didn’t have to take the normal classes, I decided to take a calligraphy class to learn how to do this. I learned about serif and san serif typefaces, about varying the amount of space between different letter combinations, about what makes great typography great. It was beautiful, historical, artistically subtle in a way that science can’t capture, and I found it fascinating.

None of this had even a hope of any practical application in my life. But ten years later, when we were designing the first Macintosh computer, it all came back to me. And we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography. If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, its likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do. Of course it was impossible to connect the dots looking forward when I was in college. But it was very, very clear looking backwards ten years later.

Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.

My second story is about love and loss.

I was lucky — I found what I loved to do early in life. Woz and I started Apple in my parents garage when I was 20. We worked hard, and in 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company with over 4000 employees. We had just released our finest creation — the Macintosh — a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? Well, as Apple grew we hired someone who I thought was very talented to run the company with me, and for the first year or so things went well. But then our visions of the future began to diverge and eventually we had a falling out. When we did, our Board of Directors sided with him. So at 30 I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating.

I really didn’t know what to do for a few months. I felt that I had let the previous generation of entrepreneurs down - that I had dropped the baton as it was being passed to me. I met with David Packard and Bob Noyce and tried to apologize for screwing up so badly. I was a very public failure, and I even thought about running away from the valley. But something slowly began to dawn on me — I still loved what I did. The turn of events at Apple had not changed that one bit. I had been rejected, but I was still in love. And so I decided to start over.

I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.

During the next five years, I started a company named NeXT, another company named Pixar, and fell in love with an amazing woman who would become my wife. Pixar went on to create the worlds first computer animated feature film, Toy Story, and is now the most successful animation studio in the world. In a remarkable turn of events, Apple bought NeXT, I returned to Apple, and the technology we developed at NeXT is at the heart of Apple’s current renaissance. And Laurene and I have a wonderful family together.

I’m pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn’t been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith. I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.

My third story is about death.

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: “If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you’ll most certainly be right.” It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure - these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

About a year ago I was diagnosed with cancer. I had a scan at 7:30 in the morning, and it clearly showed a tumor on my pancreas. I didn’t even know what a pancreas was. The doctors told me this was almost certainly a type of cancer that is incurable, and that I should expect to live no longer than three to six months. My doctor advised me to go home and get my affairs in order, which is doctor’s code for prepare to die. It means to try to tell your kids everything you thought you’d have the next 10 years to tell them in just a few months. It means to make sure everything is buttoned up so that it will be as easy as possible for your family. It means to say your goodbyes.

I lived with that diagnosis all day. Later that evening I had a biopsy, where they stuck an endoscope down my throat, through my stomach and into my intestines, put a needle into my pancreas and got a few cells from the tumor. I was sedated, but my wife, who was there, told me that when they viewed the cells under a microscope the doctors started crying because it turned out to be a very rare form of pancreatic cancer that is curable with surgery. I had the surgery and I’m fine now.

This was the closest I’ve been to facing death, and I hope its the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept:

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

When I was young, there was an amazing publication called The Whole Earth Catalog, which was one of the bibles of my generation. It was created by a fellow named Stewart Brand not far from here in Menlo Park, and he brought it to life with his poetic touch. This was in the late 1960’s, before personal computers and desktop publishing, so it was all made with typewriters, scissors, and polaroid cameras. It was sort of like Google in paperback form, 35 years before Google came along: it was idealistic, and overflowing with neat tools and great notions.

Stewart and his team put out several issues of The Whole Earth Catalog, and then when it had run its course, they put out a final issue. It was the mid-1970s, and I was your age. On the back cover of their final issue was a photograph of an early morning country road, the kind you might find yourself hitchhiking on if you were so adventurous. Beneath it were the words: “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin a new, I wish that for you.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

Everything is flowing easily and comfortably into my experience and business. I have set up my financial fund plans: Personal and JKM Income.

My personal fund plan consists of all the companies that pay on a monthly basis, investing in those companies. Such companies are Sprint, Bellsouth, Wells Fargo, etc to name a few. The reason for this fund is to invest in what you know and use investment plan logic.

My JKM Income fund consists of companies and funds that as a business investment income producing vehicles that produce high income with capital appreciation as a secondary strategy. I have identified Cohen & Steers Advantage Realty Income fund to start.

I have also begun setting aside my CD ladder fund which I will implement with BOA. The first ladder will be a year ladder starting with $4,000, set for 30, 90, 180, 270 days. This will be a good start for my laddering strategy that as a CD matures I will reinvest the monies every 3 months so I have a CD maturing 3 months initially,then begin my 6 month laddering strategy.

I am 5 weeks into my CDL classes and on target to have my license by mid May. I have set up a team driving approach with Chad G to drive with him that will allow me the flow and freedom to expedite my current investment strategies.

New monetary goal focus: $5,000 a week.

I decided to take a break from blogging and focus. I intended on taking a 2 month break and the report my results. I have had some really good break throughs and put myself into a very good position. I have begun my yoga - kundallini study and to date, very sore. But a good sore. It has helped me with my focus and visualization of the perfect experience that is called life.

My main purpose of this "word" is to communicate my intent.

I believe I found the perfect company to build out my insurance operations. The company has been around for 100+ years, focused on businesses and high net worth individuals. Global in nature and in the top 10 in regards to money and insurance assets in US. I am happy to say that I have achieved my cdl goal. I will be in class on weekends till April 1. I have been reading and reviewing a lot of different books. Researching their foreword and outline and how close they are all related. I have been expressing my book idea and collecting a lot of thoughts. As I become clearer with my book intent, the goal is to stay on purpose as I listen to other views. I am finding reading others books as an author changes the book experience, specifically as I have been more conscious of the framework. As I have a somewhat free day, meaning I am staying in the office for a better part, I will focus on some of the other 90 day tasks that I have set aside for tomorrow.

1/17/006

I have missed a few days and must say it I missed adding a new entry. I spent the last few days speaking to my advisors about blog and which areas I need to focus on to improve. How many days it take to form a habit. I only ask that question because of my missing of adding a new entry.

Based on the feedback from my advisors and some internal conflicts I have been experiencing, I have decided to publish my thoughts and my time schedule each day. As I have been spending a good amount of time transferring my activity for each of my tasks daily, I have opted to publish the tasks I wish to accomplish for the week on Sunday. This way I will be able to recount my task weekly and monthly.

I have come to realize that I am always working on researching. It has been noted that I should record all the time I am working on my business. Considering as I conclude this blog, I am going to read and research till bedtime. My day is filled with working on my goals and tasks.

As I was working on the task, the idea of creating the book so that it can be read both front to back and back to front (similar to the movie pulp fiction). The benefit of thinking in these terms were serve the reader as one who is ready to apply and also one who is still thinking about applying.

In most of my tasks – I declared today Day of rest, which means I didn’t perform any physical action towards its completion. Thinking was the action today. I have been reviewing my week, looking at what I did that was right, or shall I say moved me forward, and how I can improve. I have been contemplating whether I should schedule each task and set time. I have been fighting this idea yet realize it may be increase my productivity 10 fold, specifically as I consider my consulting-income stream time.

As I have set the 2007 corporate guide, coming up with 2/3 ways of hitting each target would be better served through my project allocation time schedule. I implemented my dial a principle service. I amaze myself everyday. It’s a comforting feeling to know my mentors are a single dial away.

Very interesting day. Had a lot of fun honing my presenation skills. Got my dial a friend working which may become a unique business opportunity as I consider all the marketing promotional usage opportunites. I will add 15 more before I communicate en masse.

I spent the better part of today comparing and refining my one year and 90 day goals. Many were parallel and had me achieve a specific industry line of business opening, operating this year with XX amount of dollars sold and earned. To get better at operating my business I figure that identifying the year-end goals, broken down by quarters, I should achieve the end goal. Yes I know, this is obvious and standard practice in most businesses. It’s funny how we lose the fundamentals. Defense wins games. Defense wins game.

Each goal is part of a bigger picture. My task is to create the initial end game and work backwards. To assist, I have spent day preparing my plan book with a separate entry, instead of the journal style entry prior. As I don’t want to carry more notebooks, I am simply going to dedicate a page to each task, and write and work on that page to create so at the end, I simply able to rip out the pages, type, and easily organized one way to achieve such a task.

I am not going to making any entry to each goal today. Although I did work on them, it was more on the refinement the achievement although clarity of vision, creates the foundation.

Today was spent assessing my past week. As I have learned to be fond of monitoring my time, I allowed today simply to flow and went with my impulses. Focusing on specific tasks for the day is a rewarding experience. I researched the new perimeter retail space (near H. Russell’s Manhattan) for insurance agency retail space. Gauged the foot traffic, prospects, and if any other agency shops are opened or opening for business. Granted there are many office buildings nearby yet I feel if I go with a brand name – it should provide a “realized” capital gain if to know one else but me.

The challenge I am having is determining the appropriate lines. Do I seek out a project, contract work, or placement to achieve goal or do I focus on my intended 3 industries of business. Or I could choose a single industry, build stream in that line and then go into the other industries. Multiple streams of income are my true goal.
